Cork International Short Story Festival

I was delighted to have a chat with Cónal Creedon & Lisa McInerney as part of the Cork International Short Story Festival in September 2019. Cónal Creedon is a short story writer, novelist, playwright, and documentary filmmaker. His books include the short story collection Pancho and Lefty Ride Out (Collins Press, 1999) and the novel Begotten Not Made (Irishtown Press, 2018). His short stories have achieved recognition in the Francis MacManus Awards, Life Extra Awards, George A. Birmingham Awards and PJ O’Connor Awards. “Creedon’s words are enough to create a world that is at once comic and dramatic, poetic and musical.” – Rachel Saltz, The New York Times Lisa McInerney’s story Navigation was longlisted for the 2017 Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award. Reading on the Crosstown Drift Walking Tour

I was delighted to have read on the Crosstown Drift Walking Tour as part of The Cork Midsummer Festival, 2019. The event took place at the lovely Nano Nagle Centre. Here’s the line up, in some head company! 10.30am: Wendy Erskine & Nicole Flattery at Bobos Cafe at the Glucksman Gallery, Western Road 11.30am: Danielle McLaughlin & Sean Tanner at NeighbourFood, the Apple Market, 13 Barrack street 12.30pm: Launch of The Stinging Fly, Summer 2019 issue at The Nano Nagle Centre, Douglas Street – introduced by editors Danny Denton and Cal Doyle – with readings by contributors Dean Browne, Tadhg Coakley, Ellen Dillon, Fergal Gaynor and Louise Hegarty. This is my last post of 2018 and it’s been some year. My first book The First Sunday in September was published in August by The Mercier Press. I’ve been busy, finishing the editing process for the book and reading and writing as much as I could. Thanks to everyone who supported me, I’m so grateful. Thanks to everyone who read my blog over the year and special thanks to those who took the time to follow, like and comment on the posts. Not to mention those who bought my book and read it. Some who read it were even good enough to contact me with kind words. You have no idea how much that means. Onward and upwards to 2019. I’ve a draft of a crime novel on the go and I’m now working on a book of essays on sport. The next few months will see a lot

A chairde, welcome to the August 24th, 2018 meeting of the Committee. The Rúnaí can’t be here tonight, he’s asked me to deputise on his behalf. First item on the agenda. The PRO wants to pass on the following information, though the chair:   Tadhg Coakley’s novel in stories, The First Sunday in September, was shortlisted for the Mercier Press Fiction Prize, 2017 and was published by Mercier Press in August 2018. It tells the story of a fictional All-Ireland Hurling Final Sunday, from the points of view of several recurring characters, exploring recurring themes.
